Frequently Asked Questions

About Taydle & Its Data

What is Taydle?

Taydle is an AI-powered assistant for U.S. maritime import intelligence. It allows users to ask plain-English questions about U.S. import data and receive data-driven, audit-ready answers, including analyses, charts, and forecasts.

What kind of data does Taydle use?

Taydle's analysis is based on U.S. ocean import manifests (Bills of Lading) dating back to 2012 and information obtained from internet. US ocean import manifest data is made publicly available under the U.S. Tariff Act of 1930.

Why does Taydle only provide U.S. import data?

We publish only U.S. ocean-import manifests because the Tariff Act of 1930 (§ 431) expressly places that data in the public domain. In most other jurisdictions, customs statutes and modern privacy laws make the publication of named-party shipment information a significant legal risk. We are committed to being 100% compliant with all laws and ensuring we do not inadvertently pass legal risks to our customers. This is not a legal advice. This is our understanding based on our due dillgence and it could be wrong.

How often is the data updated?

We currently ingest new data on a monthly basis. We are actively working on reducing the refresh time to a week.

Who can benefit from using Taydle's data?

A wide range of users can benefit from Taydle's shipment data. Business professionals involved in global trade – such as importers, exporters, sourcing and procurement managers, logistics and freight companies – use Taydle to find new suppliers or buyers, track competitor shipments, and optimize their supply chains. Market researchers and data analysts leverage Taydle to analyze trade trends, market sizes, and demand/supply shifts. Legal and compliance professionals use the data to investigate trade compliance and intellectual property infringement via import records. Journalists, academics, and casual browsers find value in Taydle, using it to discover stories behind supply chains or study economic trade patterns. In short, anyone who needs transparency into who is shipping what products, from where to where, will find Taydle useful.

How accurate is the data?

Our data is sourced from official, legal documents, but it's not perfect. Manifests are filed by thousands of different entities, so typos, abbreviations, and incomplete fields are inevitable. We use proprietary AI to clean and normalize the data, but you should treat it as providing directional insights, not as a flawless source-of-truth. For a full breakdown, please see our Data Disclaimer.

What are the main data limitations I should be aware of?

The key limitations to be aware of are:
  • Sea-Freight Focus: Our data primarily covers ocean shipments. Air and land cargo are generally not included.
  • HS Code Accuracy: Classifications are not always precise, especially at the 6-digit level. Use them for trends and filtering, not for definitive market share calculations.
  • Company Name Variations: We use advanced clustering to merge duplicate company names, but some errors may persist.
  • Confidentiality: U.S. companies can request their import/export data be kept private, which means our data may not show their activity.

Is it legal to use this data?

Yes. The data is sourced from public records that are legally accessible due to transparency laws like the U.S. Freedom of Information Act (FOIA). Using this data for market research, lead generation, and competitive analysis is entirely legal.
